slipper clutch Honda XR650R – mounting instructions
Congratulation, you bought one of best clutch systems for
your XR650R.
This clutch should be installed by an experienced Honda
workshop, or mechanic.
- Read
this instructions with photos before you start. Check if the set includes
all parts.
- Remove
the old clutch drum ( according Honda workshop manual ), clean threads on
the shaft and big nut from old glue with brake cleaner.
- Put
shim ( STD ) between basket and drum, when you replace it.
- Install
pre mounted slipper drum.
- Put
the original steel washer as STD.
- Tighten
the big nut ( STD ) with torque 127
Nm and secure it with glue Loctite No. 620.(RED)
- This
slipper clutch is designed for using STD clutch plates. STD clutch plates is
about 31.1mm thick. In case you use
different clutch plates from OEM check this thickness. In the STD clutch plates set are thin
steel rings ( judder rings ) together with a friction plate with larger
inside diameter on first position. NEVER mount them as first ( from case).
Mount a normal friction plate as first, then the first steel plate and
then the thinner plate with steel judder rings. All other plates mount as
STD.
- Install
the pressure plate.
- Put
kit clutch springs in position as before, put spring kit-retainers, tighten
all M5 bolts with torque 8 Nm.
Check for the correct clearance
between pressure plate and clutch hub via the small holes in the pressure plate.
Correct clearance is about 1.2 mm. Minimal clearance is 0.5mm. When the
friction plates wear to this value, change all friction plates to new ones.
- Every time
use new clutch cover gasket.
- Adjust
clearance on clutch cable
- Mount
case cover according to Honda workshop manual.
TUNING TIPS
-in case you have strong tuned up engine, and clutch spins in
acceleration, use the shorter KIT spring retainers for more spring preload .
-in case you prefer more engine breaking, use kit spring
retainers for more spring preload
